Adventures in Primary

For those of you who don't know, I am the Primary Chorister at my church. That means that I am with the children in our ward for the last two hours of church and I sing songs with them. Truly, the best calling I've ever had. So much fun! But every now and then something happens that is especially noteworthy. Today was one of those days.

It was nearing the end of church, and our Primary President was ending her lesson on searching, pondering, and praying as we read the scriptures. She did a fantastic job. Just was she was about to close her lesson, one boy in the front row (who is incredibly funny) said, "I'm pondering right now." Our Primary President responded, "That's great! It's such a good thing to do!" To which the boy said, dead pan, "No. I'm pondering when I'm going to get out of here and go home." There wasn't a primary worker in the place that wasn't practically rolling on the ground laughing.

Irreverent?

Yes.

Hysterical?

You betcha!

Ha! Isn't that the truth, though? Sometimes, you just gotta ponder what other fun stuff you're gonna do when you get outta church -- no matter how good the message was!

That's the SECOND time a kid has said something along those lines when I've been teaching. I think they're trying to tell me something.

My favorite part about being in primary is the funny things the kids say.

Katie, you must just make them feel relaxed and comfortable enough so say something like that. I think that's a good thing! :)

Came across your blog from a mutual friends blog. I am the primary chorister too. That is hysterical!! Sounds a lot like something my own boy would say but he is not quiet old enough to come up with that kind of phrase yet. But he is getting there.
