Happenings

I have a few little things I wanted to remember and share. They have nothing in common except for the fact that they involve my children. But really, do I ever blog about anything else lately? Maybe I should look into that...

Anyway...

Charlie pooped on the potty a few days ago! It happened the day after he pooped in the tub. Hmmm. He's never done that for us before. So I stuck him on the potty before we made another attempt at the bath, and what do you know?! I heard the plop. :) TMI? Oh well.

Today I took the kids out in the back to play, and Liv spent the whole time eating super tart apples off our apple tree, which isn't a crab apple tree like we'd originally thought! I am soooo looking forward to apple butter, applesauce, apple jelly, apple tarts, apple pie...you get the idea. I just think it's so neat for them to be able to walk outside and grab a healthy snack off the tree. Gotta love it!

Ever since we got back from our trip to Tennessee, Liv has started hugging our legs. It's the cutest thing! She just walks up to us, grabs us around the legs and leans her head against us. Where did she learn that?

Scary moment...I was alone with the kids for dinner tonight. Eli was working late. I was just about to sit down and join the kids when Charlie made a funny noise. I looked at him. Nothing unusual. Then he opened his mouth and a little cheese or cantaloupe (not sure which) fell out of his mouth. He made a gagging noise. Instinctually I asked, "Charlie are you okay?" He looked right at me, calm as could be, and shook his head. Just as I realized I needed to do the Heimlich, he gagged the food out of his throat. I have never been so scared in my life. Charlie, of course, grabbed some more food and went right on eating.

And so it goes...

be still my heart! you know how i am about choking!

apparently, charlie has inherited his great-grandpa rankin's tendency to just go right on eating following a choking episode. :)

Wow! That's scary, Ab! Sorry you had to experience that - what a relief he wasn't too shook up about it! If that had happened to Clark, he would never eat again!

em? my dad had to have the heimlich maneuver done on him while he, my mom, abby, and eli, and per and i were out to dinner for his birthday. it was super scary, cuz he just DIDN'T respond to the heimlich. finally, though, he did, and what happened next? he sat right back down and finished his dinner. every last bite. the rest of us just watched him. :)

Scary, but so sweet - Charlie's total trust and confidence that Mommy would "fix" it.

Awesome that parents go right into the primal protective behavior for their young.

Only afterward, when you think what might have been, do the shakes and tears start. Such a good Mommy, Abbot. xoxo

Nancy, that is amazing. Did any of the rest of you eat? Cause that would about do it for me!
That "what could have been" moment after something scary happens is so terrifying! It's amazing to me how moms can just "get 'er done" in an emergency. Like when I found Mae on Clark's floor with her forearm bent in half. . .I just got it taken care of. After, at the doctor, I almost threw up. Scary stuff. . . amazing moms.

Emily, none of us ate a bite after that except for Donald Wilson Rankin (Abby's Grandpa). We just sat there, all pale faced, and watched him eat...of course we begged him not to touch it, but he thought that was nonsense.

Linda, she is an AMAZING Mom. She's the DSO!!!! (An acronym YOU coined, by the way).
