Riverside Hospital: Day 38 (Dr.'s News!)

I finally have "news". Something to report. Something to update! It's been a while. Dr. Melillo came in to make his morning rounds today and he elaborated a little bit on the situation with Charlie and Olivia. He is sure that the sac has resealed itself (not "news" as we already figured this), and then he reiterated that we would proceed as planned and take the babies at 33/34weeks (that's gonna be a long c-section...hehe!). Alright. So that's not the "news". The "news" is that I went ahead and asked him what his estimates were for how long the babies would be here. He said the following...

We will do an ultrasound at 33 weeks to check their weights. He's expecting them to be in the upper 4lb to 5lb range! This is great news, because if you remember from an earlier post, 5lb is "go home weight". He does not anticipate that breathing will be a major problem (a small one maybe, but not major.) So the thing that will most likely keep them here is feeding. Trying to get that sucking reflex down. He said that breathing and sucking at the same time are for a baby what running on a treadmill is to an adult. It's hard and taxing stuff. But...the most important thing is, he thinks they will be here a week, maybe 2. Which will have them home for Christmas! Obviously, it's possible that it could be longer, but he seriously doubts that they will be here for 3 weeks. So that is just perfect. There will time for me to heal and get the house ready to go (and of course, go to Grease!), but they won't have to stay here for weeks and weeks like we had been thinking. They will definitely come home before the new year.

So now we just have to pray that we can all make it to 34 weeks and that Charlie and Liv will be healthy and strong. And quick learners! :)
