New Carpet! And Carpal Tunnel?

This is gonna be short. Why? Because my hands hurt! Yesterday, as luck would have it, school was canceled for me on account of a water main break that left us without running water and toilets. (A must have for potty training toddlers.) Anyway, that meant I was home when the carpet guys came to redo our floors. All of them! We now have new carpet (the old stuff was stained and totally gross) and linoleum. It's like we moved into a new house! So fresh and clean...and smelling of glue. But truly, I feel much more ready to welcome the babies into our home.

However, there was a drawback. Because I was here I worked from 8:30 am to about 10:00pm moving stuff around my house. For those of you who have never had the floors redone in a house in which you are currently living, it is literally like moving into a new house. Our living room is still full of "stuff" with nowhere to go...yet. (Eli dear, could you please assemble the crib so I can put all this "stuff" in the nursery please?) But lest you get the wrong idea, Eli has been moving furniture and the like as well. So he has not been a slacker. Especially considering the fact that I can't lift anything over 30 lbs.

Needless to say, I probably did a bit too much physically demanding activity for a woman who is almost 23 weeks pregnant. I was exhausted! I'm still exhausted! But worse than that, my hands hurt. Apparently the carpal tunnel that I have but haven't felt for about a year is being exacerbated by this pregnancy. I am in horrible pain. My hands are numb (when my fingers and wrists aren't in terrible pain) and I am dropping things left and right. Today I told Margie, my co-worker, that I didn't feel comfortable holding children...because I might drop them! Swelling is part of the issue too. My hands and feet get so swollen that it hurts. I have talked with a nurse who insisted it is just carpal tunnel, but I am talking with my doctor about it tomorrow. I really hope it's nothing serious. Anyway, the moving made it worse. I am now going to go lay down with the fancy, oh-so-fashionable wrist braces and hope I'll get some relief. I'll keep you posted.

mmm, Wendy's. you've got a great mom, Abby!

Sorry about all of this! Hopefully it's just a bump in the road and not something you'll have to deal with for the next weeks! I wish we could come down and help but I'm at the "could-go-into-labor-any-time-now" crossroads... But I'll be thinking of ya! Congrats on your new flooring!

Emily had a horrible time with carpal tunnel during each of her pregnancies...apparently pregnancy exacerbates the symptoms of it...I didn't realize that...so sorry honey...but hey!...cool about the flooring!!!!

P.S. Can you wrap a bag of frozen peas around your wrists? Or heat? Or both? How about putting Vicks Vaporub on your wrists and THEN applying moist heat? How about sitting under a pyramid while chanting ABOUT Vicks Vaporub?...just seeing if you're still reading....
