Fast Sunday

Well, it's the first official Fast Sunday of my pregnancy. And we know what that means! No actual fasting need take place! As I write this, I am eating a piece of peanut butter toast and enjoying some yogurt. However, my friend Liz and I were talking last night, and she had an idea that I really liked. Because I cannot go without food and drink, I am going to give up any liquid that isn't water. No extra enjoyment so to speak. (Not that fasting is about not enjoying food. But there is definite sacrifice involved.) This way I can make a sacrifice that does not harm the baby. I should also add a disclaimer that I am still drinking my 4oz of MonaVie because this is my greatest source of fruit. So I'm thinking it's more a food than an unnecessary drink.

Now, I think it's time to share some not-so-happy news. Typically, I don't share what I'm fasting for (except for with Eli). But I think this is something that I can share with everyone. It's important that I am still able to preform some kind of fast while I am pregnant because we found out a little over a week ago that my Dad has stomach cancer. At this point, there isn't much information but the doctors seem to think that they caught it fairly early. There is a possibility that it has spread to a couple small lymph nodes, but they are so small that the doctors aren't sure yet. So though this is not good news, we are optimistic at this point. Dad will have his first full doctors visit on June 5th, and we are hoping that all of the information will be in so that a plan of action can be formed. Hopefully they can get everything with surgery and he won't have to undergo chemo or anything like that. So that is part of my fast for today. If everyone could offer a prayer for my Dad, I know we would all appreciate it. And thank you to those who have done so already. He is in good spirits and the rest of us are trying to follow suit.

Hi Honey. I put your sweet dad's name on the prayer roll Thursday night at the Redland's Temple. I go 1-2 x a month so I'll put it on regularly out here and I'm certain you're doing it there as well...he'll get bi-coastal prayers. I put you and Eli on it as well. Love to ALL of you.

Hi Ab! We'll be praying for you and your dad. I'd love to tell you I'd fast for him, but....Baby Niebel won't let that happen. Speaking of fasting, I've been trying to bear my testimony each Fast Sunday, whether it be to Nic, or in sacrament meeting, in YW, or in some other capacity. That has helped me keep with the Fast Sunday program. Anyway....SEE YOU SOON!!!!!! :)

I have prayed almost non-stop since I heard the news. Per joins me in those prayers and wishes David a healthy bounce back to normal. When I spoke with David on the phone, he sounded strong and optimistic, so that's what I am being, too. I urge everyone to do the same.

To David, all the best.
