Our Mini-Vacation

Two weekends ago, Tutu (aka Laura, my step-mom) took Charlie and Liv for the weekend so Eli and I could have a much needed weekend "get-away." Eli and I discussed various options for our weekend. We'd saved some money for our annual vacation to Torch Lake in Michigan, and as we won't be going this year (I'll be in the hospital), we figured we could use the funds for our weekend. But after much thought and consideration, I felt uncomfortable going too far away from my Dr. So we decided to rent a room at the Hilton at Easton on Friday night, and spend our vacation fund on food and whatever else we wanted at Easton on Saturday. So that's what we did!

We dropped the kids off on Friday evening and headed to dinner and then to the CMOTC (Columbus Mother's of Twins Club) sale. Not what we had intended that for our Friday evening, but it was productive nonetheless. We scored a like-new rocking chair and ottoman, baby gate, 3 booster seats, a crib bumper, clothes for Charlie and Liv and a few toys for $105. Not too shabby! After that we were pretty tired, so we headed to the Hilton, ordered room service (my pregnancy eating schedule required this), swam in the pool and relaxed. I slept like a rock! Best night's sleep in a looooooong time. It was wonderful.

Saturday morning arrived, and we decided to take advantage of what the breakfast buffet had to offer. Let me tell you. The Hilton has an excellent buffet. They have made to order omlettes that were to-die-for. I'm not even a big omlette fan, but yuuuuummmmmm. After stuffing ourselves to the brim with food, we bought tickets to an 11:45 showing of The King's Speech. But by that point, I had to rest my pregnant body. We went back to the hotel for a rest before the movie. Poor Eli was such a good sport about all my needs. I know he would have rather been shopping or something, but he never complained. After the movie, we spent the rest of the day eating, eating, eating, watching another movie (because I was tired again), and doing a little shopping. I am amazed just how drained I was even after all the resting and sitting.

The best part of the weekend was the lack of stress. No schedules to keep, no food to prepare, no cleaning to do, and though we missed our kiddos a lot, we didn't have to constantly worry about them and their needs. And let me tell you...we didn't have to worry at all. Charlie and Liv had their own mini-vacation at Tutu's. They played with their cousins Jalen, Jaden ("Tookie") and Grey, and generally had a blast...I have photographic evidence. :) As things go with Grandmas, it was a bit of a transition when they came back home! But we are so glad they were able to have fun and let loose. That's what being a kid is all about!

And now, the aforementioned evidence...

On the first day, there was Grandpa David's mud pit...

The next day, Liv and Tookie decided that last night's bath wasn't enough. Into Tutu's fish pond! (It was too cold for fish though. Thank goodness.)

And Liv, being the considerate girl she is, decided that Bunny couldn't be left out of the fun...

Meanwhile, they ate...doughnuts (not pictured), pizza...

Chicken fingers...

and Panera.

Oh yeah. And ice cream...

Just a typical weekend with a grandparent. :)

Glad you and Eli had a chance for a little get away together. I can imagine how exhausting it is manufacturing multiple human beings! The cute cousin pictures are so great to see. My favorite is the one with everyone down on the blanket eating chicken nuggets. They all are growing so fast! xoxo

I love this entry!! And, I couldn't help but laugh at the all grandma pictures. . . Oh, MY WORD! Were those kids spoiled that weekend, or what!? I LOVE IT!! When mom had Deano for a week while we were in Hawaii we came home to a very. . ahem. . spoiled little guy. The first night I put him in bed I called my mom and said, "Your busted. You rocked this kid to sleep every sing night." She fessed up. It made me smile. Grandmas are the best!!!
