Winter Activity Fail

My kids have been glued to the TV lately. As you know if you read my blog, this is NOT okay with me. Yes, we pick and choose the shows they watch so that they are the most educational and wholesome shows possible. But it's still TV. They should be exploring the world and learning through play! Peter Pan is awesome (especially that whole flying thing), but all day, every day? No. And that's all they want. "Peter Man, Peter Man, PETER MAN!!" When I turned it off for nap today, Charlie threw a fit like none I've seen. He lost total control and could not be calmed for a good hour until he wore himself out and fell asleep. Only to wake up 40 minutes later to continue the tantrum. Then he fell back asleep for another 30 minutes...only to wake up still tantruming!

This afternoon I decided to do something about it. So we pulled out our snowflake cupcake mold to make colored snowflakes. We filled them with water and added the food coloring. Then we popped them in the freezer. Tomorrow we'll take them out and melt them in a bucket of warm water and watch the magic happen. But this activity didn't take up much time...

Thinking quickly on my feet, I grabbed a couple tupperware containers and ran outside to grab some snow. The twins have been at eachother's throats lately, so I thought having separate containers might work better. I brought them into the kitchen and laid them on the floor. When I came back one second later with the camera, I found this...

After cleaning the mess, I found Charlie working hard on trying to put his slippers on. (He's been really trying to put his own shoes on lately.) But he was a bit frustrated...

So I did the only thing a mother can do in times like these...

At least it isn't Peter Pan.

I'm with you. When I'm by myself and trying to get dinner ready, Disney Princess Sing-Along is my lifesaver. I have tried not to use the TV as a babysitter, but it's oh-so handy!

you watched absolute barrels of t.v., ab, and you turned out pretty decently. don't fret too much. better too much t.v. than an insane mother. :)

You've gotta do what you've gotta do. I shower during Sesame Street. Do you guys have Netflix? Ella's been watching Wonder Pets lately. It's actually not annoying, and she loves it.

Abbey we do have netflix. that's all we have. and Hulu plus. Liv enjoys wonderpets, but Charlie doesn't care for them much. Backyardigans and Sid the Science Kid are also great shows. Especially Sid. Super educational. :) For TV.

Backyardigans . . .don't know what Clark would have done without it. Mae lived on Baby Einstein videos and Deano loooooves Baby Bach.
You gotta do what you gotta do!
