Dad Memories

Last night I was thinking about Dad and a memory occurred to me. Right after I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I was assigned home teachers. (For those who don't know, every family is assigned home teachers. Two men who come to visit each month to share a gospel message and generally serve the family in whatever way is needed.) So my home teachers were Brother Newman and Brother Tuttle. Brother Newman was in his late 80's, maybe early 90's, at the time so he wasn't able to make this particular visit.

Anyway, Brother Tuttle was leaving just when Dad was getting home from work. I introduced the two, as they had never met before, and Dad and I walked Brother Tuttle outside. As he was heading to his car, he turned around and said, "I think you two should say 'I love you' more." I think Dad was equally as taken aback. We certainly could have said it more, but I don't think either of us doubted that we loved eachother. Then Brother Tuttle told us to say it right then. So we did. Again, a little perplexed. But you know what? Ever since that time, Dad and I always made it a point to say "I love you." In hidnsight, I wonder if perhaps Brother Tuttle was inspired to give us that council because the Lord knew something we didn't...there really wasn't a whole lot of time left to say it, and we would BOTH need to know it.

It's a good lesson for everyone, that's for sure. If we all took that advice, I think the world would be a better place.

Love you, Abs!
