The Past Two Weeks...

The past two and a half weeks have been just too full and busy to find time to post another entry. But tonight, for the first time, I have a moment to breathe. So I will give a brief synopsis of what has been happening. Brief, mostly because I am not yet ready to go in depth into the emotions I have been experiencing. That we have ALL been experiencing. You'll have to read my mom's blog for that.

I will say this...Christmas was hard. I am glad that it is over. It was the first time that my Dad's absence was so blatantly obvious. His Santa hat sat on the floor empty. And Jalen's new Polar Express train (one of Dad's favorite books btw) was put together by Eli. And though he did an excellent job, and I'm excited for him to put toys together for Charlie and Olivia, it should have been Dad kneeling on the floor trying to keep that train on the tracks. That's what Dad did...he kept the train on the tracks. This gaping hole hurt...a lot.

And Charlie and Liv? They didn't make it home for Christmas. They didn't hear carols. Instead they heard monitors beeping. Actually, they did hear a couple carols. And an odd version of the Christmas story as Mom sang to them on Christmas Eve and tried, in vain, to remember Linus's speech from "Merry Christmas Charlie Brown." That was a sweet and tender moment. She also read "Twas the Night Before Christmas" to them. But still, they were in the NICU. And we missed them.

But on a positive note, the babies are out of their isolettes and in open cribs. Now they just need to keep finishing those bottles of theirs. But they take turns stopping just short of finishing, and thus keeping themselves in that hospital longer than expected. But they are gaining weight and doing well. There have never been any breathing problems or other scary issues. They are healthy and safe and oh-so-cute. We just want to get them home! I am still working to get their room ready, but I'm almost there. Eli installed the carseats tonight, so the stroller is next.

We decided to save our Christmas gifts for when Liv and Charlie come home. Afterall, it is their first Christmas, so we might as well celebrate around the tree with stockings and gifts and candles. I am looking forward to it. In the meantime, here are some pics from these past weeks. Our babies!

If you have pictures of our little ones, please email them to me! We can't get enough.

Wow, Ab! Those babies are cute! And people tell me this all the time...."That bow is bigger than her head!" In Olivia's case, that just might be true!

Thanks for the update...we've been thinking about you guys! Take care, and keep those pictures coming!
