Riverside Hospital: Day 35 (An End In Sight)

Finally it looks as though there is an end in sight to all this on again, off again with the babies. Dr. Melillo has now said at least 3 times (so I feel confident it will actually happen) that he will deliver Charlie and Liv around week 34. Today he told me we will schedule the c-section that first week in December. That means we only have about 3 more weeks to go. I just can't imagine carrying them to term at this point. I would have six more weeks to go after what is going to be their actual birth date! It feels like we have been waiting for so long now. But thankfully, 34 weeks is the safety point. Most likely they will still be in the NICU for awhile, but there is a small chance we could take them home. Or at least one of them. The requirements: they must be 5 lbs, and be able to eat and breath on their own. Sounds simple enough, but it just isn't with preemies. So we'll still have to wait and see on that one.

Also, Eli and I have tickets to go see "Grease" at the Ohio Theater on December 19th. They were given to us for my birthday from Dad and Laura. Call me crazy (because I just might be), but I am hoping to schedule the c-section on a day that will insure my relase from the hospital by the 19th. Melillo shook his head and said there was no way I'd feel like going. But I WILL! We'll find a little wheelchair and off we will go. I'm just not going to miss it if I'm home by that point. I figure we deserve it. And it will be a "last hurrah", so to speak. Of course, I will keep you all updated as to the actual delivery date and as to whether or not we make it to the show!

I am also getting a little bit worried about having the necessary (and immediately so) supplies for these little ones. A dent has barely been made in our registry. And though we have a lot of bigger clothes (aka pajamas, not really clothes), we dont have anything for right away. They are probably going to be tiny babies! We are also lacking recieving blankets and other feeding and diapering necessities. Talk about stressing me out! Somehow we have to get the basics, I'm just not sure how we'll do it. I guess if you're planning on buying us or the babies any Christmas gifts, I'd suggest refering to BabiesRUs registry. :) Our gifts to Charlie and Olivia will definitely be coming from that sacred document!

I'm available for babysitting...it will be my last nite in town...I can share duties with several people...if the kids are home, I mean...we can congregate over there and wrestle to see who gets to take care of them....or if they're in the NICU, I can go over there and rock one or both of them until they get sick of me...or of rocking...or both...I'm cool with that...I'm just saying I'll be around that night :)

i will graciously step aside and let Grandma Debbie have the pleasure of slurping the cute little faces of Charlie and Liv. i am fortunate to have lots of days and nights ahead with them whereas Debbie's days are a bit more numbered. so, much as it will KILL me, i will defer to Debbie. (i WOULD say that Debbie and i could baby-sit the kids together, but can you imagine how degenerated THAT would be? poor kids, they'd never be the same.) :)

Abby:
Randall, the kids and I are planning on buying the babies some diapers and a couple preemie onesies. Does your BRU registry have the "send to" option? Or you can let me know where you would like them sent.

well hey, at least you had 3 baby showers, most people only get one.

that is so sweet of you to want to help out! i mean, how long has it been since we saw eachother? Too long I guess. :) You certainly don't have to do that.

And I don't really know what the "send to" option is exactly. Please, enlighten me for the future.

Eli,

We are happy to help out. I know we haven't had twins or the trials you two have experienced, but we do have our own set of "Irish Twins" so we know just a little bit about what you two will be dealing with in the months to come.

As for the registry. When you set up your registry at BRU if you put in your full address then the person purchasing can select to ship to the parents or to their own address. If you want I could just drop a box of diapers on your doorstep. Do you guys have a brand preferance? Also if you are interested we have the bottle warmer that you registered for, and we're very much done with it. To be honest since both kids were bfed we only used it when I went back to work so it's in good condition. Also if you need crib/cradle sheets we have those as well. Corbin is in a "big boy" bed and Nora will be in one after the holidays so we really have no need for them. They are also in good shape since I change sheets frequently. If you think of anything else you need please don't hesitate to ask we probably have it.

Abby, we have a gift for you (still to send) but we also have some things we can give you. The Bundle Me, for eg... we've got two in pink. You can definitely have one (since we only need 1 and you asked for a pink one along w/ the sage one). Also, I've got an extra Boppy that I haven't used. AND some newborn clothes that we can loan you. Also what kind of bottles will you use? I've got a bunch of Playtex Drop-Ins that Muriel won't use. Don't feel bad saying you guys still need things. You're having TWINS, for God's sake! Ask away!!! I'll see if there's anything else we can part with that you need... ;)
